Hot girl with a space helmet hanging out in darkened alley ways under fire escapes. One look at this ad and I fell in love with my dream girl from the future. Having grown up in the late 80s/early 90s, everything about this comic seems to resonate within my bones to the point where I even hung this ad up on my wall because it so perfectly transported me to the glamorously gritty world of 1986 New York that I remember so well from my dreams.

COLLIDER #1

(W) Simon Oliver (A) Robbi Rodriguez

It started small: temporary gravity failures, time reversal loops, entropy reversals. With much fanfare a new government agency was formed with a mandate "to prevent and protect." Its official title: The Federal Bureau of Physics. Humans, if nothing else, adapt to the changing parameters of their existence. What was extraordinary soon became ordinary, a part of people's daily lives. They move on and do what people have always done: survive. But even that new status quo is now under threat. Things are getting worse, and it falls to Special Agent Adam Hardy and his FBP team to figure out what's going on, before it's too late...

DREAM MERCHANT #1

(W) Nathan Edmonson (A) Konstantin Novosadov

A double-size issue to kick off a new sci-fi series from Nathan Edmondson and newcomer Konstantin Novosadov. Haunted by recurring dreams, a boy named Winslow is hunted by mysterious beings and protected by an old traveler. Soon Winslow will realize that what is in his dreams is what the rest of the world has been made to forget--and what strange entities will stop at nothing to erase from his mind.

dream merchant.jpg

From the writer of 'Who is Jake Ellis?' and 'The Activity' comes a new sci-fi thriller that tackles the underlying meaning of our dreams and the consequences of remembering things best left forgotten. This surreal thrill-trip is gorgeously illustrated by 'another fantastic artist you've never heard of,' which is why I think Image is the best publisher on the market these days. I mean, who else is finding cutting edge talent and not trying to force them into molds created by artists and writers over 30 years ago, but rather evolving with the times, elevating the medium and delivering comic books for the future, today.

ZANADU RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2/13/13

KNIGHTS OF SIDONIA TP VOL 01

(W/A) Tsutomu Nihei

One of the manga world's most intriguing artists returns with a science-fiction tour de force which combines post-apocalyptic action, modern sci-fi video game tropes, and a traditional Japanese aesthetic. In his follow-up from the hit Biomega series, Tsutomu Nihei tackles the world of hard science-fiction by creating a modern space comedy inspired by the genre's hits from his youth.

Former architect turned crazy bad ass manga-ka, Tsutomu Nihei crafts biotech worlds of cybernetic apocalypse filled with hook handed soviet bears, techplague corporate zombies and motorcycles that put Kaneda's to shame, all blanketed in a bleak greyness of the all to real near future. A true visionary, both of Nihei's previous works, Blame! and Biomega, stand as pinnacles of not only hardcore Sci-Fi, but cyberpunk, bio-punk and any other edgy adjective placed here-punk. We can only thank our good fortune that he had the insight to realize architecture was clearly not as important as making stupid funny books for less money. RECOMMENDED BY CASEY!!!!!!!
