STRAY BULLETS: THE KILLERS #2

(W/A) David Lapham

When her niece, missing for almost a year, shows up on her doorstep with a horrifying secret, Carol Hogarth will find out that people can be poison...especially if that person is named Virginia Applejack. Find out what best friends, worst enemies, an artificial leg, and a bottle of rum all have to do with 'THE KILLER WHO AWOKE BEFORE DAWN.'

I'm talking about this because for some unknown reason people are not buying this absolutely amazing comic that by all accounts shouldn't even exist!! Stray Bullets was one of those series that ended very abruptly and left me, along with countless other readers, wondering for 8 long long long years if we would ever know the fate of these doomed, but lovable characters Lapham had injected into our brains, but FINALLY do we not only have the finale of the first series, but we have NEW Stray Bullets as well!! This is by far one of the best comics I have ever read, not to mention one of the greatest crime epics to ever be told in any medium. You are doing yourself a serious disservice if you pass on this black and white, gritty neo-noir masterpiece!!!

I cannot explain to you the sheer shock, awe and excitement when I first heard that Image would be publishing not only the long long long awaited conclusion to David Lapham's noir masterpiece, but new issues as well which blew my freakin' my mind!! The impact that this intense series had upon my young 16 year old psyche was like a gunshot to my head, leaving me with the resounding echoes of its masterful depiction of the depravity and beauty that exists at the very bottom of humanity. This comic is a MUST have for anyone who has ever wondered what lay down that dark and dirty alley in the dark recesses of our minds or if you just wanna be shown how one man's ten year determination can result in a dream that has inspired so many others in their creative paths.

RICHARD STARK'S PARKER: SLAYGROUND HC

(W/A) Darwyn Cooke

Darwyn Cooke's masterful and multi award-winning series of PARKER graphic novels continues with Slayground! Parker, whose getaway car crashes after a heist, manages to elude capture with his loot by breaking into an amusement park that is closed for the winter. But his presence does not go unnoticed-a pair of cops observed the job and its aftermath. But rather than pursue their suspect... they decide to go into business for themselves, with the help of some "business associates." From then on it's a game of cat and mouse, one played out through closed rides of the abandoned carnival... a game that slowly starts to favor the mouse.

Once again, master illustrator, Darwyn Cooke invites you to spend the holidays with blue collar criminal, Parker as he attempts to outwit the local fuzz and their not so friendly associates after a heist goes wrong! I am constantly amazed by not only the quality of these books, but by the frequency at which Cooke produces them; a feat not to be taken lightly. The pictures flow like an elegant tango, the words and art melding together to create a an atmosphere of tension that hangs over you until the final page. This is a perfect holiday gift for even the grinchiest of grinches on your shopping list!!
