STAR WARS: LUCAS DRAFT #1

(W) J.W. Rinzler (A) Mike Mayhew

Before Star Wars, there was The Star Wars! This is the authorized adaptation of George Lucas's rough-draft screenplay of what would eventually become a motion picture that would change the world.

Annikin Starkiller is the hero . . . Luke Skywalker is a wizened Jedi general . . . Han Solo is a big green alien . . . and the Sith . . . Well, the Sith are still the bad guys. High adventure and derring-do from longer ago, in a galaxy even further away!!

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S STAR WARS HC

(W) Ian Doescher (A) Nicolas Delort

Full of feuding royalty, family melodrama, comical fools, and fantastic creatures, Star Wars has always been the most Shakespearean of Hollywood blockbusters. Now it's presented in a manner that Shakespeare himself would recognize - with classic iambic pentameter and Elizabethan-style stage directions. Fans will love the Star Wars jokes and Shakespearean flourishes (R2-D2 launches into dramatic soliloquies whenever the other characters leave the stage). Text will be accompanied by fantastic Elizabethan woodcut illustrations of Chewbacca, C-3PO, and more.

Springing from the confluence of reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in the same summer as attending the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ian Doescher presents the mashup you never knew you wanted, William Shakespeare's Star Wars. Portland-based Doesher has brought upon this world a retelling of the greatest epic of the modern world as may have been presented by the greatest poet of the Old World. -

BACK ISSUE OF THE DAY!!!

WILDCATS (1999) #7

(W) Scott Lobdell  (A) Carlos Meglia

One of the most frenetic and underrated artists in the business, Carlos Meglia passed away in 2008, but his work lives on and I was pleased to uncover an issue of Wildcats he did back in 2000. Meglia has a really great animation style that is rough around the edges and filled with an undeniable energy that drags you deep into his quirky world of angular awesomeness.

Obviously, this image isn't from the comic, but you get the idea of his art.

ZANADU RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 2/13/13

STAR WARS #2

(W) Brian Wood (A) Carlos D'Anda

A cagey young Imperial officer seems to anticipate the Rebels' every move, so Princess Leia forms a "stealth squadron"-including Luke Skywalker-to expose a suspected spy within their ranks.
Meanwhile, Han Solo and Chewbacca run afoul of bounty hunter Boba Fett, and the Emperor sends Darth Vader on a secret mission!

We will also have 2nd printings of #1 so get your classic Star Wars on, padawan! RECOMMENDED BY HOWARD!
