“Writer and journalist G. Willow Wilson lies at the epicenter of multiple fault lines of American identity. Originally a self-described ‘upper-middle-class American White girl with bland politics and polite beliefs,’ she converted to Islam while in college, worked as a journalist in Mubarak’s Egypt, and now writes the hugely successful comic series Ms. Marvel, featuring a Pakistani-American teenage girl from Jersey City named Kamala Khan. Join Humanities Washington for an event with one of America’s most fascinating writers." The event will be moderated by KUOW’s Jamala Henderson. Ticket link on the event page.

ON YOUR MARKS: THE SHORT RUN ANTHOLOGY, VOL 2

(W/A) Various

A drifter walking through a burial ground, people smashing their technological devices, complicated bandages, young Hercules and his 3-headed dog, feeling ashamed of your instincts, and a journal comic about drought featuring the words of John Muir.

Short Run continues the tradition of the festival anthology with volume two of On Your Marks. This year, the festival organizers chose a smaller representation of artists to allow each a bit more space to spin a yarn: each story is between 3-5 pages. Two international artists are featured alongside three West Coast artists on the rise.

24 pages printed by Aidan Fitzgerald with a Riso machine in deep blue and black with a three-color screen-print wrap-around cover designed and printed by Jon Horn & Eric Carnell of Fogland Studios.

NEW LOCAL COMICS!!

We've just added two new comics to our local section from up and coming Seattle comic artist, Kiriska! In her own words, "I draw pictures and write stories." What more do you need to know? Check out her website for more stuffs!

SUNFLOWERS AND RAINBOWS

(W/A) Kiriska

24hr Comic Day (October) 2009. 24-page BW oneshot.

Following the previous year’s adaptation, I definitely wanted to do something original for 2009′s 24hr Comic Day. This is what came out of my head at the last minute and I’m really happy with how it turned out, given all the restraints of the event. Aside from the cover (really just page 15) which was colored at a later date, only minor clean-up edits were made to the pages after the initial 24 hours.

THE LAST CRANE

(W/A) Kiriska

January 2011. 8-page, BW toned oneshot.

This was my submission to the 2011 SCAD Sequential Arts Anthology, and I am pleased to report that it was accepted.
