Ok, well, maybe this is only the first chapter, but it'll give you a taste at just how fun and energetic Pope's new book turned out! I was fortunate enough to read the book in its entirety and honestly I was a little skeptical at first. Pope's been working on this for so damn long that I'm expecting every panel to look like the Sistine Chapel, but what he delivers is a quick, dirty and nasty style that evokes his earlier, inkier work, with a mad cap energy that reminds me of Corey Lewis' turbo-charged comix. Pope has delivered an American Manga complete with coming of age demigod dilemmas that will punch the FUN back into funnybooks!! (oh yeah, and magic t-shirts)
