WRENCHIES GN

(W/A) Farel Dalrymple

Meet the Wrenchies. They're strong, powerful, and if you cross them, things will quickly go very badly for you. Only one thing scares them-growing up. Anyone who survives to be an adult lives in constant fear of the Shadowsmen. All the teenagers who come into contact with them turn into twisted, nightmarish monsters whose minds are lost forever.

It was a tough choice this week with both Prophet: Strikefile and this coming out, but I gotta go with the genius that is Mr. Dalrymple. A prophet veteran himself, Farel is one of the most unique, odd, talented and down right brilliant creators working in comics today and Wrenchies is 300 pages worth of proof for anyone who doubts this hyperbole. Soft spoken and unassuming, Farel has the spirit of a true comix barbarian with the mind of a space-ghetto born Miyazaki who crafts stories that have reduced me to tears in just a few pages. Do yourself a favor and splurge on what will surely be one of the best graphic novels to come out in 2014!!

SHACKLETON ANTARCTIC ODYSSEY GN

(W/A) Nick Bertozzi

Ernest Shackleton was one of the last great Antarctic explorers, and he led one of the most ambitious Antarctic expeditions ever undertaken. This is his story, and the story of the dozens of men who threw in their lot with him, many of whom nearly died in the unimaginably harsh conditions of the journey. It's an astonishing feat - and was unprecedented at the time - that all the men in the expedition survived. Nick Bertozzi has documented this remarkable journey with such wit and fiendish attention to detail that it's impossible not to get caught up in the drama of the voyage.

BATTLING BOY TP/HC

(W/A) Paul Pope

The new graphic novel from award-winning creator Paul Pope! When Battling Boy's father, a warrior god, drops him on a world infested with bloodthirsty monsters, he leaves his son with nothing but a magic credit card, a trunk full of enchanted tee shirts, and instructions not to come home until he's liberated the planet from its plague of monsters. It's one kid vs an entire world full of monsters. And the monsters don't stand a chance.

You've seen pages from it, heard other creators talk about it online, but for all of those a bit further down the ladder, Paul Pope's highly anticipated new work is finally here!! Going into reading this, I had a preconceived notion as to what it was going to be, what I wanted it to be, but as usual Pope gives you what you need not what you want and Battling Boy is the result. A perfect manga influenced coming of age story on a cosmic scale that pits a young demigod against a town full of predatory pedophiles in different colored KKK hoods with nothing but his wits and a trunk of magical t-shirts at his disposal!
